About the YCC Northern & Yorkshire

The Yellow Card Centre Northern and Yorkshire is one of five regional adverse reaction monitoring centres, acting on behalf of the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA)

Our main objective is to promote, support and stimulate local reporting of adverse drug reactions, through the Yellow Card Scheme. The scheme collects and monitors reports of suspected adverse reactions, and is run by the MHRA.

All reports are received centrally by the MHRA and the data captured electronically, enabling faster detection of possible drug safety issues.

The primary role of the centre is to encourage adverse drug reaction reporting among patients and health professionals in North Cumbria, the North East and Yorkshire, by providing support and education targeted according to local reporting patterns. Our activities include:

  • Education to key reporter groups and undergraduates
  • Production of our bulletin “Safer Medication Use” to raise awareness of adverse drug reactions and discuss safe prescribing
  • Sharing good practice to encourage adverse drug reaction reporting
  • Website development to facilitate better communication with our local reporters
  • Research
  • Promotion of electronic reporting
